Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Good news for the people of Rakiraki as 40 people now have a job following the opening of the Shop Plus Supermarket today.

Prominent Rakiraki businessman and supermarket owner, George Shiu Raj says 80 percent of their employees are females, and adds his commitment has always been to invest in Ra for the betterment of the local community.

Raj says he has grown and now feels a deep sense of responsibility to give back through these investments.

He says while growing up in a small village in the Province of Ra in Namuaimada, his family started a small shop that laid the great work for what is now involved in the flushing business.

The businessman says through hard work and the steadfast commitment of the community, they can expand and extend their reach to Rakiraki Town and beyond.

He says he is immensely proud of his children, Amit Raj and Preeta Raj, who have been the pillars of the support in this journey.

Raj adds their collective effort provides employment to over 120 individuals in their company.

While opening the supermarket, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said that at a time when Rakiraki and the province of Ra need a boost in economic activity to replace the long-closed sugar mill—which resulted in many job losses and affected the local economy—the establishment and opening of the new supermarket is a much-needed and welcome injection into the area's economy.

He has congratulated Maharaj as he has contributed to the economy of not only the province but of the country for so many years.
