Fiji Cancer Society CEO, Belinda Chan.

The Fiji Cancer Society says they are continuing to support cancer patients with care packages which includes basic food items and other necessities as more families are losing income.

CEO, Belinda Chan says they started with using their own funds to provide the packs however with assistance from the Fiji Women’s Fund, they have been able to assist more families.

Chan says after receiving assistance from the Fiji Women’s Fund, 186 packs and 200 COVID kits were distributed to families in the Central and the Western Divisions.

She says VegFest Fiji also distributed 30 food packs to families of cancer patients yesterday that includes vegetables and other items such as flour, dhal and porridge.

Chan adds care packs are being provided every two weeks and more assistance is expected to arrive from the Smart Family in Australia.

Meanwhile, the Society with the support from other non-governmental organisations has sent a care package that includes KN95 masks, pregnancy kits and sanitary pads to the women in Kadavu.

Chan says they reached out to Medical Services Pacific for the pregnancy test kits and about 60 bras were donated by the Smart Family.

She says through assistance from the Rotary Club of Suva, 120 masks were included in the packages for the medical team as well as those on the Island who need it.
