28-year-old farmer, Mohammad Afzal Iqbal of Valelawa, Dreketi, has been awarded the Young Farmer of the Year at the 2025 National Agriculture Show.
He dedicated the award to the memory of his late father, acknowledging the important role he played in shaping his farming journey.
Iqbal commended the Government for prioritising agriculture as a national development sector, noting that initiatives such as advisory support and subsidised services have significantly improved the livelihoods of farmers.
He further says that without this assistance, he would not have been able to reach this level, and expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture for their continued support.
The 2025 National Agriculture Show, which concluded last Friday in Nadi, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to empowering farmers and strengthening Fiji’s agricultural sector as a driver of sustainable development.
