One of this year’s Miss Hibiscus contestants is using her platform to call for stronger family relationships and more quality time between parents and children.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Miss Playland Fantasy, Talei May, says her advocacy is centered around encouraging families to build strong, meaningful connections — starting with spending more time together offline, as this is lacking in today’s society.
May says with Playland Fantasy as her sponsor, they value strong family time because their business involves amusement rides and everything that symbolises family and happiness.
She says amusement parks create spaces where families can reconnect away from digital distractions.
May also expressed concern about the growing trend of parents relying on devices to occupy their children.
The 2025 Hibiscus Festival continues this afternoon with the floating procession set to begin at 3pm.
Themed nights throughout the week include a church-themed outreach on Sunday, Youth Night on Monday, Asian Night on Tuesday, and Indian Night on Wednesday.
On Thursday, there will be an iTaukei Night, followed by Pasifika Night on Friday, and finally, the Crowning Night on Saturday.
