The Ministry of Rural Development and Disaster Management has been honoured with the prestigious Aziz-ul-Haq Rural Development Medal by the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific.

The award recognises the Ministry's outstanding contributions to rural development, including efforts to improve livelihoods, reduce poverty, and increase food security in the region.

Senior Economic Planning Officer Kaselia Adivatulili and Director of Development Services Arieta Dimuri accepted the award on behalf of the Ministry.

Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Isoa Talemaibua described the recognition as a significant achievement, crediting the hard work and dedication of the Ministry's staff.

He says the Ministry remains committed to ensuring inclusive development for sustainable and resilient rural communities and the award is a testament to their team's efforts in promoting the well-being of rural areas.

He adds they will continue to enhance the quality of life for all rural Fijians through innovative development initiatives.

Talemaibua also expressed gratitude to CIRDAP for acknowledging the Ministry's efforts and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration with regional and international partners to address the challenges faced by rural communities.

The Ministry has been instrumental in driving rural development in Fiji, with a focus on improving infrastructure, boosting agricultural productivity, and providing essential services to rural areas.

He says this recognition highlights the Ministry's pivotal role in contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of Fiji.
