Minister for Finance with his team currently carrying out a review of the true status of govt’s financial position - PM

Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says Minister for Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad with his team is currently carrying out a review of the true status of government’s financial position.

While announcing the Back to School initiative, Rabuka says they are also conducting mandatory audits and associated checks and balances.

Rabuka says until those are completed, they will be curtailing what they consider to be wasteful spending in areas that are not a priority.

Rabuka says we should also be mindful that the aftermath of the COVID-19 shutdown continues to haunt more than 60 percent of our population who are living below the poverty line and facing hardships.

The PM adds some sectors such as the tourism sector have shown reasonable recovery while others are still struggling.
