NBA legend Michael Jordan says he will donate US$100 million to groups fighting for racial equality and social justice.

Jordan said in a statement that he and his Jordan Brand will distribute the money over 10 years and the money will go to several organisations in a bid to tackle "ingrained racism".

It comes in the wake of protests breaking out across the US and around the world following the death of George Floyd as he was restrained by police.

President of Jordan Brand Craig Williams says they are announcing a joint commitment from Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand to donate US$100m over the next 10 years and they must join forces with the community, government and civic leaders to create a lasting impact together.

He adds there is still more work to be done to drive real impact and they have embraced the responsibility.
