The Methodist Church of Fiji Social Service Committee Suva Circuit is aiming to extend their assistance to housing and bill payments for families who are in need due to the COVID-19 crisis and Tropical Cyclone Harold.

People can donate towards this worthy cause by contacting William Tora Levy on 9368916 or email wtlevy@yahoo.com.

You can check our Hands Across Fiji section of our website, fijivillage where we connect people needing assistance to help those severely affected by COVID-19 to those who are looking at initiatives to assist the worst affected.

According to the Department of Social Welfare, an additional 115,000 people are unemployed in the country, with many Fijians losing their jobs, working on reduced rates or working on reduced hours.

Chairman Akuila Tawake says with the tremendous support being shown during their food and stationery drive that is being held every last Saturday of every month, they are aiming to extend their assistance to housing and bill payments.

Tawake says with some of their donations coming from organisations and people from overseas, they have been in discussions with them about their long-term target which is to assist members who have been evicted from their homes since they have been laid off from work or their hours have been reduced.

He says they are aiming at assisting a family that live in Tamavua-I-Wai by building a home for them by the end of the year. The family has been evicted from their home and is now staying with relatives.
