Former Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Rakuita has been appointed as the Principal Strategic Lead – Pacific Women by the Pacific Community.

SPC Director General Dr Stuart Minchin says that Rakuita will be taking on the new role from the 4th of April, bringing with her a wealth of experience leading national and regional efforts for gender equality.

Minchin says as the Principal Strategic Lead, Rakuita will be a member of SPC’s Senior Leadership Team and work across the organization, in collaboration with the Executive Office and Human Rights and Social Development Division.

The Principal Strategic Lead will champion gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, ensuring these tenets are central to SPC’s work, to bring about the transformational changes required to improve the status of women and girls in the Pacific region.
