Men urged to get screened early for prostate cancer as 11 cases recorded by Cancer Society

The Fiji Cancer Society is calling on men to seek early screening for prostate cancer, with 11 cases registered with the Society in the first quarter of 2025.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Chief Executive Officer Belinda Chan says the Tatarovi Project aims to reduce stigma by taking awareness and screening services directly to rural areas, especially for men who may not be able to access these services due to economic or geographical challenges.

Chan says the Society also offers counselling services to encourage more men to get screened early and start treatment if needed.

She is calling on people to normalise conversations about prostate cancer and to encourage men to speak openly about their health.

Meanwhile, Chan is inviting the public to attend the upcoming FMA Movember Bikeshow, organised in partnership with the Fiji Motorcyclists Association, to raise awareness about prostate cancer.

The event will take place on 15th November, from 6pm to 11pm, at the Fortech Complex Car Park in Nokonoko, Laucala Beach.
