Medical teams from the Ministry of Health are on standby

Medical teams from the Ministry of Health & Medical Services in the Western & Northern divisions are on standby for any related medical emergencies as Fiji prepares for the worst due to the current adverse weather conditions affecting the Fiji Group.

In case of a medical emergency, in the Western Division, people can contact their command centres Nadroga / Navosa – 9929344 Nadi Sub-Division – 9981705 Lautoka / Yasawa – 2202406 Ba Sub-Division – 9948568 Tavua Sub-Division – 6680500 or 8918988 Rakiraki Sub-Division – 9980566 or 8913504 Divisional EOC –Divisional Medical Officer – 9906951

In the Northern Divisional Bua – 2961638 Macuata – 8781532 Cakaudrove – 9855190 Taveuni – 9739150

In the Eastern Division Divisional Medical Officer – 8915972 Divisional Health Inspector – 8918990

In the Central Division Divisional Medical Officer – 9906950 Central Command Centre – 9906430

The Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong says in terms of the occurrence of power failure, sub-divisional hospitals around the country have backup generators that will ensure continuity of healthcare service delivery and has been set up to focus on flood response and any medical related issues such as infectious disease outbreaks.

He says common diseases during these adverse weather conditions include diarrhoea, water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and leptospirosis and vector-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue.
