The Western Maroons have won the 2020 FNRL State of Origin after defeating Eastern Blues 20-8 in a thriller this afternoon at Churchill Park.

Maroons player Simon Wise scored the first try of the match to help the Western side lead 6-4 at the break.

The Western side came out firing in the second half with a try from Apolosi Tuiloma and Maika Serulevu to seal their victory.

Pio Seci scored the only try for the Blues.

The Blues had a lot of chances to cross over the line but could not capitalise as the Maroons defence stood like a brick wall.

In the women’s competition, Western Maroons thrashed the Eastern Blues 28-6.
