Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar confirms the market master at Labasa Town Council has been removed and they had a similar situation at Savusavu Town Council.

Kumar had revealed earlier that they have found some market masters have not made correct decisions in a number of municipal councils and some of them have given stalls to people who don't need the stalls and these people have later sublet the stalls.

She says the CEOs of all municipal councils will now be deciding who will be getting the stalls in the municipal markets and this is to curb unfair practices.

Kumar says there are other market masters in other municipalities that have been dealt with however she does not has specific information.

She confirms any matter that has to do with abuse of office is being referred to FICAC.

The Minister for Local Government adds they are currently converting the by-laws into regulations which will be the guiding tool for market managers as they are getting rid of the title, market masters.
