The Suva High Court will set a trial date in the next court hearing for a man who is alleged to have stolen, modified and sold stolen vehicles.

Anu Segran Naicker made an appearance before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar for two separate cases.

In both cases he is charged with a count each of aggravated robbery.

It is alleged that Naicker on the 24th of December, 2019, in the company of others stole a hybrid Prius vehicle belonging to Raj Singh.

In the process Naicker is also alleged to have stolen other items and cash that were in the car.

He is alleged to have used force on the victim.

In the second case, it is alleged that Naicker on the 6th of January, 2020, stole another hybrid Prius belonging to Nadim Shah Ali.

Following the alleged theft, Naicker then allegedly modified these vehicles by removing their taxi signs and repainting the vehicles.

He then allegedly sold it to other people.

Both vehicles at the time of the offending were being used as taxis.

Naicker was then arrested after the chassis number matched the chassis number of the stolen vehicles.

It was revealed in court today that the man has previous convictions of similar nature.

The court will also be preparing an order to restore these vehicles to their respective owners as they have been in custody of the Samabula Police Station since Naicker’s arrest.

Leave has also been granted for defence to file an alibi notice.

The matter has been adjourned to the 6th of July.
