Man produced in court for allegedly showing the President the middle finger

A man who allegedly showed the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere his middle finger has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says Andrew Irvin was arrested on the 16th of April which was a Saturday and produced at the next available court sitting on the 19th as it had coincided with the Easter Long Weekend.

Irvin who sells popsicles on his tricycle is charged with one count of indecency for allegedly indecently annoying the President.

The man has been ordered not to re-offend, not to be charged with other offences and not to change his address while on bail.

The case has been adjourned to the 3rd of June.

Meanwhile, a video of Irvin’s arrest has been circulating on social media which shows he is being manhandled by the Police while he resists arrest.

When questioned if the matter is being internally investigated by the Fiji Police Force, Naisoro says they cannot comment further as the case is before the court.
