A man is in police custody for assaulting three female officers.

Police say the incident occurred this morning at around 4am where three female officers were on patrol along Qauia, Lami when they were approached by the suspect who ended up assaulting one of the officer.

They say one of the female officer went to get assistance and three male officers came to confront the suspect. Police say the suspects' brother confronted the three officers with a cane knife and struck one of them causing injuries to one of the officer's head and arm. They say the suspect who assaulted the female Police Officer is now in custody while the search for his brother is underway.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says the incident will not discourage Police from carrying out their duties.

ACP Driu says this is a sad reality of their work and despite trying to promote peace, officers are being attacked for carrying out their duties.

He says a team has been formed to track the suspect and Police will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.

The Assistant Commissioner says they are maintaining law and order for everyone and assault on officers will not be taken lightly and will come hard on the people responsible.

He adds both injured Police officers have been taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Investigations continue.
