The man who allegedly desecrated the Shiv Temple in Samabula on Friday has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.

28-year-old Samuela Tawase has been charged with one count of sacrilege and one count of throwing object.

The case has been adjourned to the 28th of this month to allow for an order from Acting Chief Magistrate, Josaia Waqaivolavola for further psychiatric evaluation.

An initial psychiatric report has indicated that Tawase requires additional assessment.

It is alleged that he jumped the temple fence on Friday afternoon and destroyed the idols with a crowbar.
