The bhajan singer who allegedly swore while singing bhajan in Qerelevu, Ba last month has been charged by the police.

The video of the incident had gone viral prompting widespread condemnation.

The man has been charged with common nuisance and will be produced in the Ba Magistrates Court on the 30th of this month. Following the incident, the Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji condemned the use of vulgar language in Hindi bhajans by bhajan singers or bhajanias.

An interim wing has also been formed within the Sabha to look after cultural and religious singers.

National President of Sanatan Dhram Dhirendra Nand has also proposed that every cultural and religious singer be registered under the new wing and have a proper identification card and a registration number.
