Man charged for allegedly damaging Sigatoka stallion statue

A 23-year-old man will appear in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court tomorrow for allegedly damaging the 12-foot stallion statue belonging to the Sigatoka Town Council.

Police say the cost of damage is valued at over $7,000.

The man has been charged with one count of damaging property.

The monument is a 12-foot stallion holding a six-foot tall rugby ball beneath its hoof.

Located near the Melrose Bridge, it was commissioned to celebrate Fiji’s 50 years of independence.

Shane Bower who constructed the structure has confirmed to fijivillage News that repair works are underway.

He says he is currently working on repairing the ball and once that is done, it will be taken to Sigatoka to fully repair the statue.
