A 29-year-old man is set to face court this morning after being accused of sexually assaulting an elderly woman in an aged care home on the NSW Mid North Coast on New Year's Day.

Police were called to the Coffs Harbour aged care home in the early hours of January 1, following reports an unknown man had allegedly entered a 76-year-old woman's room and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

Police said the woman was treated by paramedics at the care home before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man in relation to the incident on Thursday afternoon.

Footage of the arrest shows a topless man in green shorts being handcuffed by officers outside a business.

He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and break and enter with intent.

The man is due to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court this morning.
