Major infrastructure projects to be announced in June budget – Prof. Prasad

There are major public sector funded projects in the upcoming budget which includes bridges, the Nadi River flood alleviation project and many others that the government will be announcing in the budget on 27th June.

This has been confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad while responding to the President’s speech in Parliament today.

He says there is a major transformation that is happening within Energy Fiji Limited where they are looking at renewable energy transition.

The Deputy Prime Minister says that itself will invite a lot of investment and create more jobs in the economy.

He further says they are also looking at developing the Suva Port.

While talking about the health sector, Professor Prasad says the Vunisea Government Hospital and the Nausori Health Centre were falling apart but it is this Government that has got the development partners who are now fixing it.

He says the Australian Government with the World Bank compiled an independent report where the the first line said “years of neglect”.

Professor Prasad says with the support from the Government of Australia, they have identified 27 priority projects to upgrade CWM Hospital and other key health infrastructure.

The Deputy Prime Minister further says that late Justice Jai Ram Reddy and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka did what many considered impossible - change the unjust 1990 Constitution through painstaking negotiation, dialogue, and consensus building.

He says both of them and their parties paid a heavy price at the polls, but they did not blame the new Constitution because the comprehensive review report was the product of a widespread consultation never done before.
