FIji Roads Authority Acting CEO Sonal Goundar says the widespread loss of gravel from unsealed roads has made roads unsafe to use and will impact most of the bus routes and bus services, especially around the interior of the Western and Northern Divisions.

Goundar says FRA is unable to deploy heavy equipment such as rollers and graders to affected areas as these will exacerbate damage to the affected roads.

He says they will require dry conditions to repair most of the unsealed roads and will deploy their road crews to the badly affected areas as soon as practical.

He adds their strategically placed satellite teams will be attending to immediately respond to situations as reasonably practicable.

The Acting CEO is urging heavy vehicle owners to avoid haulage using unsealed roads as these will damage the saturated pavement and worsen the road conditions.
