71 free heart surgeries have been conducted by the Sai Prema Foundation Fiji since they were established in 2016.
Head Surgeon of Sanjeevani Hospital from India, Dr Ashish Katewa says this year they have completed 17 free heart surgeries for children.
Dr Katewa says the youngest child they conducted surgery on is a 3 month old child while the eldest is a 14 year old girl.
Dr Katewa says they have donated a state of the art eco machine to the medical centre in Suva.
He adds they have also helped upskill some of the local doctors and nurses who were part of their team during their stay.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says it has been a wonderful journey for the Fijian Government and the Sai Prema Foundation where they have come and provided free operations for our children.
He says they are truly grateful to the work that is being done and also the aspirations of the Sai Prema foundation in building a hospital that will look after children with heart defects.
