A live tsunami siren test will be conducted at 11am this Friday, along the Suva-Lami corridor, and people will not need to evacuate from their area.
The National Disaster Management Office says this exercise is part of the Government’s commitment towards improving its state of readiness for any tsunami event.
They say the purpose for this exercise is to also test the functionality of the sirens.
There are 13 sirens installed along the Suva foreshore, having an acoustic range of 1.2 kilometres.
The sirens are located at the Water Authority Fiji Kinoya Sewage Treatment Plant, Fintel Vatuwaqa, RFMF Officers Training School Vatuwaqa, USP Statham Campus, USP Lower Campus, USP Main Campus, Veiuto Primary School, Government Training Centre in Nasese, iTaukei Trust Fund Board, SCC Civic Centre Car park rooftop, Biosecurity at Renown Street in Suva, Government Shipping Services in Walu Bay, and Lami Town.
