The Fijiana 7s team will play Great Britain in the bronze medal match at 8.30 tonight in the Olympic Games after going down fighting in extra time to New Zealand in the semifinal this afternoon.

Fiji led 7-5 at halftime and was relentless in defence and attack.

There were great moments of individual brilliance and a strong never give up attitude from the Fijian players.

Vasiti Solikoviti scored a try for Fiji in each half.

She was fast and always closely followed behind when there was a breakthrough in the defensive line.

The teams were locked 17-all at fulltime after the Fijiana scored a last-minute night try in the corner to level the scores.

The match then went into extra time and NZ did well to maintain most of the possession from the kick-off and build on it.

They eventually crossed over to score the winning try after several phases of play scrambled and tested the Fijian defence.

This is an impressive improvement from the Fijiana who finished in 8th place in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The gold medal final between France and NZ is at 9 tonight.

Great Britain lost to France 26-19 in the second semifinal.
