Students in Fiji and abroad now have improved access to education and opportunities as the University of Fiji and the University of Bradford inaugurated a Peace Garden in Levuka this morning which aims to foster higher education through joint projects in formal and informal learning.

The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities and was witnessed by the citizens of Levuka, chiefs of Ovalau and Moturiki and members of the Royal Society of Arts. UniFiji’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem says the project promotes student and staff exchanges, joint research and cultural projects.

Bradford University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon says the project’s role is to expand research mobility and broader access to education.

Meanwhile, a member of Royal Society of Arts Oceania, Dr. Erica Myers-Davis says the initiative exemplifies the power of collaborative innovation to create meaningful local and global impacts.

To further support education in the region, the University of Fiji has opened an office in Levuka to assist local students and provide broader educational services to the people of Ovalau and Moturiki.

Approximately 100 people attended the event, marking a significant step in Levuka's journey of progress and global connectivity.
