The founder and CEO of FRIEND Fiji Sashi Kiran says this Diwali let us remind ourselves that more than 100,000 families are going through extremely difficult and uncertain times as they ponder their future after losing their employment in the last six months

In her Diwali message, Kiran says there are families who are finding it difficult to put food on their table and they pray that those who are privileged will share the light, love and food with those in need.

She says they would like to acknowledge many corporate donors including Lotus Garments who made it possible for them to distribute 500 food ration packs during this week alone.

Kiran says this year we have seen different shades of light and grey as we have journeyed together stronger through our challenges.

Kiran says the western division has been receiving and healing COVID cases, the front line workers in quarantine centres, nurses, doctors have had to deal with their own fears as they have stood tall and have been keeping us all safe from a disease crippling the world travels.

She adds let us spare a thought for these heroes who continue to work through these holidays, many sacrificing their family time as they go into quarantine in having to treat patients. Kiran says since the lockdown, they have been facilitating distribution of food rations, medications, seedlings and supporting people with various livelihood options as they have journeyed together with people going through very traumatic and uncertain times.
