Lekutu Youth Council members have been encouraged to participate in sports after they received sporting equipment from the Ministry for Youth and Sports.

While officiating at the Lekutu District Youth Camp and Soli at the Lekutu District School in Votua Bua, Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru says sports is no longer a field looked down upon, as sportsmen and sportswomen receive million-dollar salaries annually, showcasing the lucrative nature of the industry.

He says there is a remarkable transformation in the sports industry, where athletes are now highly paid.

Saukuru says they have established five youth centres around the country to offer free courses to empower the youths and equip them with the necessary skills for success.

The five centres are the Naleba and Naqere Training Center in Vanualevu, the Valelevu Youth Training Center, the Naleba Training Center in Sigatoka and the Yavitu Training Center in Kadavu.

The Minister urged the youths to take pride in representing their districts, as their performance contributes to the overall progress of Fiji.

Saukuru had also signed the Lekutu Youth Council Law.

He also acknowledged the youth for the warm traditional welcome and commended their dedication to preserving their rich culture and traditions.

The Minister and his staff also participated in the soli, symbolising unity and solidarity.
