Josefa Saronitokatoka Volitiviti Kolinio Radrudru Ravoka escorted from Suva Magistrates Court today.

A law student who has been allegedly posing as a Director Legal at the Attorney General's Office and obtaining money by false pretences has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Josefa Saronitokatoka Volitiviti Kolinio Radrudru Ravoka appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama this afternoon.

Ravoka is charged with one count of personating a public officer, 2 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, 4 counts of giving false or misleading documents and 1 count of giving false information to a public officer.

It is alleged that all the incidents took place earlier this year and he obtained financial advantage by deception amounting to $7,500.

The man allegedly used names like Josefa Ravoka and Josefa Atalafo while obtaining money from people according to Crime stoppers. It is alleged that he was meeting people at some government offices and posing as a lawyer.

The prosecution objected to bail saying the accused has pending matters at the Totogo Police Station that have to be investigated.

Defence lawyer, Tevita Cagilala said the allegations against Ravoka has not been proven and he has to attend classes and sit for exams since he is a student.

However, Magistrate Bodaragama says the charges against Ravoka are serious and the amount of money he obtained by deception is very high.

He says the student also had a previous conviction of serious theft and burglary.

The matter has been adjourned to the 5th of November.
