While majority of students from the six campuses of the Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific along Laucala Bay took note of the Tsunami evacuation exercise this morning there were some students who just stood back and gazed with no sign of effort to go with the drill.

The campuses that participated in the tsunami drill included, FNU Maritime, FNU NTPC, USP Main campus, USP Statham, Lower and Marine Campuses.

Students that took part were even seen strolling up the hill along Laucala Bay Road while making their way to the main assembly point.

Some students who stayed behind told Fijivillage that they were not informed about the drill others said that they did not know what was happening.

Meanwhile, USP OHS officer Atish Lal who was in-charge for USP evacuees clarified that the school had published information via mainstream media and this was even delivered to students emails.

Lal says that they will now go back and discuss with the National Disaster Management Office on the results of the drill.

When questioned as to why the back gate was locked during the drill, Lal says that they want to control traffic movement and would not lock it if a real tsunami situation were to occur.
