Labasa secures BOG semi-final spot with 2-0 win over Nadroga

The roar of the home crowd at Subrail Park powered a 10-men Labasa side into the semi finals of the Extra Battle of the Giants competition, after they defeated Nadroga 2-0 last night.

Ilisoni Lolaivalu opened the scoring in the first half, before Solomon Islander Jimson Abana sealed the victory with a clinical finish in the second spell.

This comes after Labasa edged Ba 1-0, making it two wins from two in Group A.

Coach Alvin Chand says they will go back to camp and assess injury and player fatigue before their final pool match as they want to end the group stage on a high note.

He is urging fans to encourage the team during the match as criticism only hinders their performance.

They will now face defending champions Lautoka in their final group match at 4 this afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Group B, Rewa has also confirmed their place in the semi finals after a dominant run in the group stage.

Lautoka needs at least a draw against Labasa to qualify for the semi-finals, while a win would see them top Group A.

Ba must beat Nadroga convincingly and hope Labasa beats Lautoka for a chance to qualify on goal difference.

In Group B, Navua just needs a draw against Nadi to progress, while Nadi must win to stay in contention. Today’s matches will see Nadi take on Navua at 10am, Nadroga face Ba at midday, and Suva clash with Rewa at 2pm.
