Following concerns raised by residents in Togomasi, Nadi on the lack of bus service and overcrowding in some buses, the Land Transport Authority says they are currently undertaking necessary load checks.

Togomasi resident Anit Chand has labelled bus services in Togomasi as pathetic and says the bus company previously gave the excuse of poor road conditions but now that the road is perfect, they fail to deliver their best.

He says the second bus to Togomasi has no timetable, and sometimes it does not turn up at all.

Chand says to cover the trips, the company sends a bus service to Malakua, Togomasi and Dratabu.

He says the bus is fully packed with people standing from the door step to the back.

While criticising LTA officers at the bus stand or roadside, Chand asks what will happen to those who are left standing after paying the full fare if there is an accident.

He says they arrive late to work every day and their hours are deducted.

He adds it's no use raising the issue on a radio program or complaining to the LTA office in Nadi, as there has been no improvement.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, LTA CEO Irimaia Rokosawa says they acknowledge the concerns raised by Chand.

He says necessary load checks are currently being conducted this week to verify the concerns raised as well as compliance with the scheduled timetable for bus services to Malakua, Togomasi and Dratabu.
