Fiji Men’s 7s make flying start in Cape Town after thrashing Uruguay 70-7

The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side kicked off their HSBC Cape Town 7s on a high note with a thumping 70-7 win over Uruguay in their first pool match this morning.

Fiji scored a total of 10 converted tries in the win.

Fiji went into halftime with a comfortable 35-7 lead after scoring 5 converted tries through Filipe Sauturaga (2 tries), Joji Nasova, Kavekini Tanivanuakula and Pilipo Bukayaro while Uruguay managed to score a converted try in the first half through Mateo Vinals to trail.

Fiji started the second half well and scored a further 5 tries through Vuiviawa Naduvalo (2 tries), Suliano Volivolituevei, Ilikimi Vunaki and Terio Veilawa for the win.

Fiji now currently tops their pool and a win against Great Britain will see them book a place in the semi final.

The Fiji Men’s 7s will take on Great Britain at 4.19am today in their second pool match.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side lost both of their pool matches last night, falling 31-0 to the USA and then losing 22-5 to Great Britain.
