The Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board has been given a boost as it has received a $100,000 cash donation from Kokomo Resorts Pte Limited.

The Union says as a charity, Fiji Rugby funds its operations from government and World Rugby grants, corporate sponsorships, and donations from companies and entities exercising excellence in corporate social responsibility.

While expressing gratitude, Fiji Rugby interim Administrator Simione Valenitabua says this donation towards Fiji Rugby as a charitable trust is the second of its kind since the interim trustees took office.

He says normally, business houses sponsored Fiji Rugby and negotiated certain rights to the jerseys, shorts, or rugby balls, however, to donate without any quid pro quo, Merchant Finance and Kokomo have paved the way for other entities to assist their charity at Fiji Rugby.

Valenitabua says charitable organisations such as the Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board need financial support from donors to assist standing sponsors, in funding games.

He is calling on individuals, businesses, and corporations to assist Fiji Rugby by donating like Kokomo for the development and betterment of rugby in Fiji.

Kokomo Fiji’s Director Operations Shyamal Singh says they wanted to give back to Fiji through rugby union.

He says they understand the struggles Fiji Rugby faces in organising international and more importantly, domestic competitions.

Singh adds they are certain that this donation will assist Fiji Rugby walk with a spring in its steps.
