Recycling advocates of Kilikali informal settlement in Nasinu have received Advocates Influencing Mindsets and Mentoring Agents Award for 2023.

Pacific Recycling Foundation says this award celebrates individuals and groups who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to recycling advocacy.

Kilikali settlement is the first informal settlement to implement Pacific Recycling Foundation’s ‘I Recycle Hub’ program, a fundamental tool in terms of visible and practical participation in recycling.

PRF says the program was launched in June last year in partnership with Pacific Energy and Nasinu Town Council.

They say recycling supporters led the collecting of almost 900kg of recyclable items between June and December 2023, keeping them away from the environment and reducing pollution.

PRF Founder Amitesh Deo says they are immensely proud to honour the recycling advocates of Kilikali informal settlement for their exceptional commitment to recycling advocacy.

Deo says the ‘I Recycle Hub’ program is not just about recycling; it's about empowerment and inclusivity.

He says through this initiative, they aim to break barriers and ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to contribute to a cleaner environment.

Pacific Energy Chief Financial Officer Jullien Leraille says they are honoured to be part of such a transformative program.

He says they extend their heartfelt congratulations to advocates of Kilikali Settlement as their passion and dedication exemplify the spirit of sustainability, and they are delighted to support their efforts in creating a positive impact within their community

The 31-year-old settlement, home to 268 residents who migrated from maritime and rural areas in search of job opportunities, now stands as a beacon of sustainable practices in recycling advocacy.
