Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu

As many plan to ring in the new year with parties and drinking, the Fiji Police Force is urging parents to keep an eye on their children as drug dealers will be targeting them to be drug carriers.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says looking at the trend, they have been arresting children who are about 16 or 17-years-old for allegedly carrying drugs.

He says as children will be targeted, he is advising parents to be vigilant and accompany their children to parties.

ACP Driu says the police do not want to ruin their future by charging them for drugs possession as that record will be with the police.

He says if they want to further pursue their education, go overseas or want to go for greener pastures, they will be stuck in Fiji because of that police record.

ACP Driu adds the youth must think of their future rather than just committing silly offences and it might be trivial in nature but drugs is included into their our top 10 offences that includes aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, rape, sexual assault and domestic cases.
