A unified stand towards curbing the illicit drug trade on the island of Kadavu has been adopted by traditional and faith-based leaders.

Recently, a new task force known as ‘Cagi Vou ni Ceva’ was launched, and it was set up to holistically address the growing concerns about illicit drugs on the island.

The Turaga na Tui Nabukelevu, Ratu Apakuki Nanovo has pledged his support on this initiative during a joint talanoa session organised by the Fiji Police Force, the Roko Tui Kadavu and government stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu also presented an overview of Kadavu's crime situation and Operation Sasamaki achievements and also stressed the need to collaborate for the sake of breaking what would become a generational dependency on the illicit trade, if nothing was done to protect the young generation.

Tudravu says they are battling two fronts, the war on drugs and the battle to change mindsets.

He also addressed police deployed to Kavala and Vunisea, commending them for their sacrifice and loyalty to leadership's intent.

He also had the opportunity to speak to community members, enlisting support in protecting the young generation from being caught in the illicit drug cycle.
