Jone Vakarisi remanded in custody

Jone Vakarisi who is alleged to have assaulted his 28-year old wife in Nabua has been remanded in custody by Suva Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara.

The alleged incidents occurred between 29th May and 5th June.

Vakarisi is charged with three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and a count each of causing grievous harm, breach of suspended sentence and breach of bail conditions.

Magistrate Wickramasekara told Vakarisi that he was sentenced in the same court just over a month ago and it is in the best interest of the court to keep him in remand.

Vakarisi has been given 21 days to file a notice of alibi.

The case has been transferred to the Suva High Court and will be called on the 19th of this month.
