It was about rugby, not me. That's the message from new Blues recruit Beauden Barrett after his debut victory against the Hurricanes at Eden Park yesterday afternoon.

Speaking after the Blues' 30-20 victory Barrett was very eager to point out that the significance of rugby's return outweighs any personal storyline between himself and the Hurricanes.

TVNZ reports that Barrett told the media that it is about rugby being brought back, and everyone coming to support the teams.

He says it is fantastic to be back playing rugby and to see the huge amount of support, they were blown away by the support.

He adds there was that emotional hurdle to get over as he was playing all his mates and starting a new chapter in his career as well.

Barrett and the Blues will travel to the south this week, taking on the Chiefs at 7.05pm Saturday while the Hurricanes will face the Crusaders at 3.35pm Sunday.
