People’s Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

People’s Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says it must be the joke of the century where the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama said that he was eager to find out the election date.

Rabuka says Bainimarama is the person who is supposed to be setting the date based on the Constitution.

He says this shows the Prime Minister is not the one in control.

The last day for the Writ of Election to be issued is on the 26th of November this year and the election has to be held on 9th January 2023.

According to Section 59 of the Constitution, the Writ of Election shall be issued by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The writ for a general election must be issued within 7 days from the expiry of parliament or from the proclamation of its dissolution by the President.
