USP Students Association Lepani Naqarase and Minister for Economy and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Minister for Economy and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says it is up to the USP Council to do the full independent investigation into USP which the Fijian Government is calling for.

He made these comments in relation to a question by the Vice President of the USP Students Association Lepani Naqarase during World Consumer Rights Day as to what is stopping Fiji from doing the investigation.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the ball is in the USP Council’s court.

Naqarase asked Sayed-Khaiyum when will the grants that is owed to USP be released.

While responding to Naqarase, Sayed-Khaiyum says the Fijian Government is still paying the Toppers and TELS for the Fijian students.

He says if there is nothing to hide, why not have it independently investigated by a third party.

USP had earlier confirmed that the university will start the new year with Fiji yet to pay $61.3 million based on the formula agreed to by the University Grants Committee.

It had stated that the funds are needed to fully run the operations of the USP.
