It is not about winning but about the participation and passion to represent Fiji.

This was highlighted by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere after receiving the Fiji Hockey Men’s and Women’s team that returned from the recent FIH Hockey 5s Oceania Cup that was held in Australia.

Katonivere says hockey does not get enough recognition in Fiji, but the achievement of both teams have stamped a mark in history after qualifying for the 2024 FIH Hockey World Cup.

The President also expressed his humility about the decision to return and make known their achievements at the games, making it one of the few sporting teams to do so after presenting their iTatau before they left for the tournament.

He also acknowledged the management of Fiji Hockey for their leadership and for showing the young athletes how things should be done.

The Fiji men’s and women’s hockey teams have qualified for the 2024 FIH Hockey World Cup, which will be held in Oman in January next year.
