FijiFirst MP, Faiyaz Koya and Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Lynda Tabuya

FijiFirst MP, Faiyaz Koya says it is very hurtful and astounding that the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Lynda Tabuya could not and didn't even want to acknowledge the atrocities that were committed against our women in 1987.

He also says it even hurts the most that she used an example of a 10 year-old-girl to talk about women who were abused.

However while responding to Koya's claims, Tabuya stresses that he is attempting to change what she had said in parliament yesterday and that reports raised by the former Minister for Education Premila Kumar were incorrect.

Tabuya says there were reports of atrocities from the 2000 coup under the leadership of former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who was the commander and not from 1987 as Kumar is claiming.

Koya then said if Kumar is referring to the abuses faced in 1987, then all she had to do was to speak to the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali.
