Issues with water supply disruption in Navua Hospital due to power outages – Soderberg

Water Authority of Fiji Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg

Water Authority of Fiji Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg says there was no water supply interruption to the Navua Hospital, however, the Hospital only encountered issues with water supply distribution within the hospital precinct due to power outages by EFL.

He says the disruption was experienced within the Navua Hospital precinct as their internal pump was out of service due to power outages but having a backup generator to run the pump within the precinct could have avoided the disruption.

This is after some residents and patients raised concerns that there was hardly any or no water supply at the Navua Hospital and nearby areas including Naitonitoni, Waiyanitu, and some parts of the Nakaulevu area.

The COO says water carting services was provided on ground-level water tanks of the Hospital to replenish the building's water supply and water supply operations were normal throughout the surrounding Navua area.

Soderberg further says currently their operations are in a normal state with adequate reservoir levels ensuring consistent water supply in the area.
