Is it such a bad thing that someone wants to be the Prime Minister.
Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya raised this question in a facebook post, saying that like in any workplace, employees who aspire to leadership roles should be encouraged and supported as part of their professional growth.
Tabuya says that no one leads forever, and no one should settle for being stuck at the same level in their career.
She says this is no different for politicians with aspirations.
The MP says she knows that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka would be the first to defend this aspiration, as he has told the People’s Alliance Party MPs, that if any of them are not aspiring to be the Prime Minister then they should not be sitting with him.
Tabuya says a good leader does not create followers, a good leader creates leaders.
She further says the Commission of Inquiry Report is intended to reveal any legal implications, which the Prime Minister is navigating cautiously, including the timing of its release and the contents it presents.
She stresses anything else around it is just opinions and the Supreme Court Judge Justice David Ashton-Lewis gave nothing more than his opinion on the subject which has nothing to do with the COI report.
The MP adds that if Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica is aspiring to be the Prime Minister then that is good for him. Meanwhile, speaking to an Australian community based radio station, 4crb, Justice Ashton-Lewis mentioned there are always going to be aggrieved people who think they can do it better and one of these people that he identified as someone who is all smile at his face and will stab him in the back if they get the chance.
Justice Ashton-Lewis says there’s also a ‘wannabe Prime Minister’.
Responding to this Kamikamica informed fijivillage News that it certainly sounds like me but he needs to clarify who he is referring to.
When asked if he ever intended to be the Prime Minister, Kamikamica says he never joined politics to become Prime Minister and he just wanted to get rid of the last government after 16 years of mismanagement and wrong rule.
The Deputy Prime Minister adds that he never asked the Prime Minister to be Deputy Prime Minister.
Kamikamica says he finds the "wannabe PM" comment as pathetic and ignorant.
He adds it is also very insulting to him and his family.
