The Fiji Corrections Service is urging the public to respect the rule of law and refrain from making baseless assumptions, especially on social media, as investigations continue into serious allegations against Acting Commissioner Sevuloni Naucukidi.
This comes after claims emerged that Naucukidi threatened to assault a staff member and harm their family.
The Corrections Service says they cannot comment further as the matter is now with the Fiji Police Force, to whom they have extended full cooperation.
They also confirm that internal investigations—with police assistance—are underway regarding other concerns involving Naucukidi.
Police have confirmed that a report of alleged criminal intimidation was lodged earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), Sitiveni Rabuka says Naucukidi has been given seven days to respond to the multiple allegations.
Rabuka says the Acting Commissioner’s response will be circulated to COC members, who will each have seven days to provide their opinion.
In a separate incident, a video that went viral on social media in May shows Naucukidi involved in a physical altercation inside a Suva nightclub, where he is seen punching a man and attempting to strike a bouncer before being restrained.
Several Fiji Corrections Service officers are also seen attempting to intervene.
