Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has welcomed the establishment of the Jan Aushadi Kendra centre in Fiji, saying it will improve access to affordable medicines and help set pharmaceutical standards for the Pacific region.
Rabuka highlighted this during his meeting with India’s Minister for Health Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi yesterday, where discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in the health sector.
The Prime Minister, who was joined by Health Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Dr Lesi Korovavala and Fiji’s High Commissioner to India Jagnnath Sami, acknowledged India’s long-standing support to Fiji’s health services.
Rabuka says Fiji greatly values India’s commitment to the country, including support towards the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital and the 100-Bed Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital.
Rabuka thanked the Government of India for its commitment to establish a grant-in-aid super specialty hospital in Fiji, which will be formalised through an MoU signing during his visit.
The leaders also discussed potential collaboration in digital health services, hospital redevelopment through Public-Private Partnerships, and expanded medical training for Fijian personnel in India.
Nadda also reaffirmed India’s interest in enhancing healthcare cooperation with Fiji for the mutual benefit of both nations.
