Indian Naval Ship INS Kadmatt bought in a team of doctors and paramedical staff in collaboration with MIOT Pacific Medical and RFMF for free health screenings at Albert Park, Suva.
The free screenings included anthropometric measurements, vitals, blood glucose checks, and eye testing, with local doctors providing support for follow-up care.
Principal Medical Officer from the Indian Navy Team, Surgeon Lieutenant Edwin John highlights that the most common types of diseases detected in Fijians were non-communicable diseases, which include cardiac conditions, diabetes, and hypertension among elderly people.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, says this collaboration aims to strengthen India and Fiji’s ties while addressing health concerns within the community.
Mehta highlights that the visit coincided with the Fiji Navy’s 50th anniversary celebrations, making it significant as this is fourth Indian naval ship visit in recent years, following those in 2016,2018, and 2022.
The visit also saw cultural and sporting exchanges as the Indian Navy personnel engaged in friendly cricket and volleyball matches against RFMF.
The Indian Navy Ship INS Kadmatt departs Fiji tomorrow.
