Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says if the members of opposition had it their way, they would have abandoned Fiji Airways, its employees and their families by now.

While supporting the motion in parliament which seeks to amend the government guarantee period to Fiji Airways, Bainimarama says it is important that they take all necessary measures to salvage our national airline.

He says Fiji Airways implemented ongoing cost savings and cash preservation measures which included aircraft loan and rental payment deferrals which reduces recurring costs by millions of dollars.

Bainimarama says these decisions were key for Fiji Airways to persevere through this crisis.

He says the performance of Fiji Airways has been on par with the best airlines in the world but COVID-19 brought a lot of uncertainty.
