Vice Chairman of World Rugby Agustin Pichot

Vice Chairman of World Rugby Agustin Pichot who is aiming to be the next Chairman of the world’s governing body for rugby, says he will continue to push for Fiji to have more games with Tier 1 nations every year and ensure that Fiji gets to host an international 7s tournament which is on the World Rugby 7s circuit.

While speaking to Fijivillage from his home in Argentina, Pichot says he has always pushed for a global game and he was pushing for Fiji to be included in the Nations Cup.

Pichot also says that he will not stop doing this although it has been revealed that Fiji will back Sir Bill Beaumont to continue to be the Chairman of World Rugby.

The vote for the chairmanship and the executive committee will take place this Sunday and the announcement will be made on May 12th.

Fiji has one vote and they have seconded France’s nomination for Sir Bill Beaumont.

Pichot needs 26 votes to become the Chairman of World Rugby.

There are 51 votes in total.

Reports have come in that Pichot has the backing of South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina while Sir Bill Beaumont has the backing of Six Nations teams.

Under the current voting model, the 'Tier One' nations - those that play in the Six Nations and the Rugby Championship get three votes each.

The 10 nations get 3 votes each and since 26 votes will be enough for victory, this group have the voting-power to elect the winner all by themselves.

A lot has been said that the votes from Fiji, Tonga and Samoa will decide who will be the next Chairman of World Rugby however Pichot says as a humble man with a lot of passion, he will wait for which way people vote from this Sunday.
